About the Area Health Education Program
The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) at University of Cincinnati, formally HEALTH-UC, serves Region VI of the Ohio Statewide AHEC Program. Our service area includes Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland and Warren counties. Funding for the UC AHEC comes from the Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) Health Resources and Services Administration of the US Department of Health and Human Services HHS) and the State of Ohio General Revenue Fund.
The AHEC Program is a multi-disciplinary, interprofessional program that seeks to enhance primary and preventive healthcare in our underserved rural and urban communities.
Our Mission
To enhance primary and preventive healthcare in our underserved rural and urban communities we will:
- Increase and expand the rural and urban underserved healthcare workforce through programs that expose underrepresented minority and rural students to health care careers
- Partner with strategic organizations across the community, region, state and nation to advance healthcare to rural and urban areas and support existing healthcare programs and providers
- Develop interprofessional learners who will serve patients in underserved rural and urban communities
- Advance research that improves health outcomes in rural and urban communities.
