Vascular & Interventional Radiology
About the Division
“Minimally Invasive Image-guided Treatments”
Our Vascular & Interventional Radiology section offers innovative advanced and minimally invasive, image-guided treatments of medical conditions. We utilize advanced imaging to deliver complex treatments for complex diseases, that are less invasive
with unique precision. Our treatments offer shorter recovery time, less pain, and low risk of complications.
Our Vascular & Interventional Radiology Section includes 13 providers; 9 board certified physicians and 4 Advanced Practice Providers who deliver unprecedented expertise to our patients. Services are provided at our nationally recognized facilities
including University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC), West Chester Hospital (WCH), newly renovated outpatient clinic, and Westchester Vein Center. Our hospitals are equipped with state-of-the-art IR suites with advanced technologies. We cover
a Level 1 Trauma Center with an active organ transplant program. Our unique patient services are delivered in collaboration with our multidisciplinary experts. Our IR faculty provide wide range of subspecialized expertise in different disease states
and research.

Overview:
-
An inferior vena cava (IVC) filter is a medical device inserted for the prevention of pulmonary embolism (PE). Many patients have received a retrievable IVC filter for temporary prevention of PE. When the filter is no longer needed, prompt removal is desired to avoid long-term complications. For some patients, standard retrieval methods fail to achieve filter removal. For these patients, our experts at UC IR use cutting-edge endovascular techniques to retrieve a variety of IVC filters, regardless of implantation length, which have become embedded within the IVC. We invite you to explore your treatment options at UC IR, and we look forward to managing any issues related to your IVC filter.
